The Fuch’s Foundation Greenland trip for July 2016 has just confirmed the trip dates and the next training weekend. The trip will run 20 July 2016 to 02 August 2016 with the next round of training based at Glenmore Lodge, the National Mountain Centre for Scotland. The 2017 trip has just been launched for those that missed out for 2016! Dates will be similar to tie in with the end of the school term…

A lovely group of 18 students and 2 teachers visited Hexgreave Estate this weekend for some camping, some team building and to start to look at the plans for their upcoming mountaineering trip to Ladakh in 2016… Adele Pennington and Steve Stout ran the training which included a run through of living in a tent for a long time,  some map reading skills, some talks about local customs and lifestyles, a discussion about the trip and the rigours of being on a mountaineering expedition.   A great weekend of exploring the details of the trip. Some of the areas covered in this introductory training session were: Maps, a look at the route options, The team got to handle the shotguns to be taken on the trip. Polar Bear procedures were discussed… Glacier crossing procedures were looked at… Environmental issues were discussed, how do humans interact with a pristine environment and not leave a trace? The second of our training sessions for the group heading to Iceland’s remote North Western Peninsula took place last weekend… Our leaders Craig Offless and Anne Hurst ran the two day course from the Peak District… lots covered including carrying heavy rucsacs, living in your tent, looking after each other and of course some planning for the trip… More to come with the third and final training in the spring.
